Canon's ultra-slim 1-inch compact — 28-84mm equiv f/2-4.9 in a pocket the size of a credit card holder.
The Canon PowerShot G9 X launched in 2015 as one of the slimmest 1-inch sensor compact cameras available. It packs a 20.2MP 1-inch CMOS sensor with a 28-84mm equivalent f/2.0-4.9 zoom into a body thin enough to slip into a shirt pocket.
Image quality is good for a compact — the 1-inch sensor provides significantly better results than 1/2.3-inch compacts, particularly in low light. The f/2.0 aperture at the wide end helps in dim conditions. DIGIC 6 processor handles RAW and JPEG processing. Touch-only interface for most controls.
Ultra-slim body at 209g and just 31mm thick. 3-inch fixed touchscreen — no viewfinder. WiFi and NFC. Full HD 1080p 60fps video. No hot shoe or external flash capability. Built-in ND filter. USB charging. Control ring around the lens for manual adjustments.
Available used at budget prices. The G9 X Mark II improved processing slightly. The Sony RX100 series offers more zoom range. The touch-only interface with minimal buttons is divisive — some find it frustrating. Outstanding pocketability for a 1-inch sensor camera.
