Canon's slim pocket compact with 1-inch sensor, a minimalist design without EVF.
The Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II launched in 2017 as Canon's slimmest 1-inch compact camera. With a focus on pocketability over features, it omits the EVF and large grip of the G5 X and G7 X in favour of a credit-card-thin body that slips into a trouser pocket.
Key features include the 20.1MP 1-inch sensor, 28-84mm equivalent f/2-4.9 zoom, 3-inch touchscreen, and Wi-Fi with Bluetooth. There is no EVF — all shooting is done via the rear screen. The body is remarkably thin and lightweight.
The G9 X II competes with the Sony RX100 series in the slim 1-inch compact space. Canon sacrifices zoom range and EVF for slimness. The G7 X Mark II adds a faster lens; the G5 X adds an EVF.
Moderate value used. Check the touchscreen and lens mechanism. The lack of viewfinder limits bright-light shooting. Best for those who prioritise pocket size above all other features.
