Fujifilm's updated rangefinder-style X-E series — 16.3MP X-Trans II with improved AF and classic styling.
The Fujifilm X-E2S was released in January 2016 as an update to the X-E2, retaining the 16.3MP X-Trans CMOS II sensor while adding improved AF algorithms from the X-T10. The 2.36-million-dot OLED EVF is the same panel as the X-T1. 7fps burst. No 4K video — maximum is 1080p/60fps. At approximately 350g with battery and card it is compact in the rangefinder-style X-E form factor. NP-W126 battery.
16.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor. 7fps burst. No 4K video — 1080p/60fps maximum. 2.36M-dot OLED EVF (0.5-inch). NP-W126 battery. Body weight approximately 350g with battery and card. Tilting LCD (85° up). WiFi. Single SD card slot. No IBIS.
The X-E2S's improvement over the X-E2 is primarily the AF software: zone selection and tracking modes from the X-T10 are carried over, reducing hunting in low-contrast scenes. The optical hardware — X-Trans II sensor, EVF, body layout — is unchanged from the X-E2. For photographers seeking a compact X-Trans II rangefinder-style body, the X-E2S provides the updated AF at modest cost over the X-E2.
On the used market the Fujifilm X-E2S is very affordable as a compact X-Trans II mirrorless. Condition checks: NP-W126 battery health (note: NP-W126, not NP-W126S — the S-suffix version has higher capacity and is forward compatible), tilting LCD hinge, and single SD slot. No IBIS, no 4K. Compatible with all Fujifilm X-mount lenses.
