Fujifilm's high-resolution flagship with 40MP APS-C sensor and 8K video capability.
The Fujifilm X-H2 was launched in September 2022 as Fujifilm's resolution-focused flagship for the X-mount APS-C system, positioned alongside the speed-focused X-H2S. With a 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR BSI sensor it offers the highest resolution in the APS-C format, rivalling many full-frame cameras for output detail. The X-H2 targets landscape, studio, and commercial photographers who require maximum resolution, combined with 8K video capability and 7-stop IBIS. Fujifilm's film simulation modes — including Provia, Velvia, Classic Chrome, and Eterna Cinema — remain a core differentiator in the system's identity.
The 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR BSI sensor pairs with the X-Processor 5. 8K video records at up to 30fps; 4K is available at up to 60fps. The 5-axis sensor-shift IBIS is rated at up to 7 stops — the highest published figure in the APS-C category. An OLED EVF provides 5.76 million dots at 0.5 inches, one of the highest-resolution finders in the APS-C class. Dual card slots use CFexpress Type B and SD/SDHC/SDXC. The weather-sealed magnesium alloy body includes direct-access controls for the key exposure parameters. Subject-detect AF covers humans, animals, and vehicles.
For landscape, studio, and commercial photography the 40.2MP sensor resolves detail that makes large-format print sizes practical and supports significant post-production cropping. The X-Trans colour filter array and Fujifilm's film simulations produce the distinctive rendering that characterises the X-system. 8K video enables extensive reframing and opens production formats not available at lower resolutions. High-ISO performance is constrained by pixel density — the X-H2 produces more visible noise at equivalent ISOs than the lower-resolution X-H2S, which is the better choice for action and low-light-primary use.
Used prices reflect the X-H2's flagship positioning within the APS-C format. Check shutter count, verify IBIS operation, inspect the CFexpress slot for any damage, and test 8K recording duration. The CFexpress Type B slot requires appropriate cards for the highest video and burst tiers; SD-only users access reduced performance. The X-H2S is the companion speed body — faster readout, better high-ISO, more refined action AF at the cost of resolution. For resolution-primary work the X-H2 is the clear choice within the Fujifilm X ecosystem.
