Fujifilm's enthusiast flagship with phase-detect AF, 4K video, and dual card slots.
The Fujifilm X-T2 was announced in July 2016 and released in September 2016, introducing phase-detect autofocus and 4K video recording to the X-T series for the first time. The 24MP X-Trans CMOS III sensor with 325 AF points — 169 with on-chip phase-detect coverage across approximately 40% of the sensor — provided substantially improved subject tracking over the X-T1's contrast-only approach. Weather sealing with 63 sealing points was carried over from the X-T1. An optional Vertical Power Booster Grip extended burst capability.
The 24MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS III sensor pairs with the X-Processor Pro. The 325-point AF system includes 169 central phase-detect points covering approximately 40% of the frame. Mechanical shutter burst runs at 11fps; electronic shutter at 14fps. 4K video records at up to 30fps with a 1.17x crop from the full sensor width. Weather sealing with 63 sealing points requires a weather-sealed X-series lens for full system protection. Battery life approximately 340 shots using the NP-W126S, body weight approximately 507g with battery and card, dual SD/SDHC/SDXC card slots.
The X-T2's practical advances over the X-T1 are phase-detect AF and 4K video. Phase-detect AF enabled reliable tracking of moving subjects — sports, wildlife, and children — that the contrast-detect X-T1 could not cover consistently. 4K video recording was the first in a non-GFX Fujifilm body. The 11fps mechanical burst with phase-detect tracking is the standard-bearer for the generation. The 1.17x crop for 4K is modest and most prominent only for wide-angle framing; standard and telephoto shooting is minimally affected.
On the used market the X-T2 is widely available at accessible prices. Condition checks: weather sealing at the body joints and port covers, dual SD slot contacts, and NP-W126S battery health. The X-T3 (2018) added a BSI sensor, significantly improved AF coverage to the full frame, and 4K without crop — the recommended upgrade for photographers prioritising AF or video quality. The NP-W126S battery is shared across many Fujifilm X-series bodies — spares are widely available. Compatible with all Fujifilm X-mount lenses.
