Fujifilm's enthusiast flagship with phase-detect AF, 4K video, and dual card slots.
The Fujifilm X-T2 launched in 2016 as a major upgrade to the X-T1, adding phase-detect AF, 4K video, and dual card slots. With a 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III sensor and the most capable AF system in the X-mount at the time, it convinced many photographers that Fujifilm mirrorless was ready for professional use.
Key features include the 24.3MP sensor with 325-point phase-detect AF, 4K 30fps video, weather sealing, dual SD card slots, a large 2.36M-dot EVF, and Fujifilm's trademark analogue dials. Burst rate is 8fps with the optional battery grip boosting to 11fps and improving AF tracking.
The X-T2 was a landmark camera for Fujifilm, proving the system could handle sports and action photography. It is praised for excellent image quality, reliable AF, and professional build. It is criticised for the lack of IBIS and somewhat temperamental battery life.
Good value used as the X-T3 and subsequent models have reduced prices. Check the weather seal integrity, both card slots, and AF tracking performance. The X-T3 added a better sensor and faster AF but the X-T2 remains very capable. The optional vertical grip is worth seeking out for sports use.
