Fujifilm's hybrid stills-video flagship with IBIS, flip screen, and improved autofocus.
The Fujifilm X-T4 was launched in April 2020 as the first X-T body with in-body image stabilisation, directly addressing the two most significant criticisms of the X-T3: the absence of IBIS and the absence of a flip-out screen. The 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor was carried over from the X-T3 with processing improvements for video output. The fully articulating touchscreen, 5-axis IBIS, and enhanced video specification positioned the X-T4 as Fujifilm's first credible hybrid stills-and-video body, attracting working videographers alongside the X-T line's traditional photographic user base.
The 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor pairs with the X-Processor 4, whose expanded processing capacity enables the 4K/60fps video mode and improved phase-detect AF performance. The 5-axis IBIS is rated at up to 6.5 stops — the first X-T body to include stabilisation, substantially improving low-light and video handheld use compared to the X-T3. Mechanical shutter burst runs at up to 8fps in standard live view mode; with the electronic shutter this increases to approximately 20fps. 4K video is available at up to 59.94fps with a 1.25x crop; full-sensor 4K records at up to 29.97fps without crop. The fully articulating touchscreen suits vlogging and flexible shooting angles. Dual SD card slots handle backup and overflow. The NP-W235 battery significantly extends runtime compared to previous X-T bodies. The weather-sealed magnesium alloy body uses analogue top-plate dials.
In practice the X-T4 is a genuine hybrid body — functional for stills and video work in a way previous X-T cameras were not. IBIS provides effective stabilisation for low-exposure stills and smooth handheld video. The articulating screen covers vlogging and low-angle work comprehensively. The 8fps mechanical burst handles most event and portrait shooting comfortably. 4K video quality is strong; the 1.25x crop at 60fps is a constraint for action videography requiring maximum wide angle. The improved NP-W235 battery enables all-day video and stills shooting without frequent battery changes.
On the used market the X-T4 is good value as the X-T5 has largely superseded it for stills photographers. The X-T4 retains a clear advantage for video-primary users: its fully articulating screen, better sustained video thermal management, and uncropped 4K at 30fps make it the preferred X-T body for video work. Check shutter count, verify IBIS operation, and test the flip screen hinge — it sees heavy use on video-focused bodies. Confirm firmware is current for best AF and video performance. A capable and well-rounded hybrid APS-C mirrorless body.
