Fujifilm's budget telephoto zoom for X-mount with OIS stabilisation.
The Fujifilm XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS II is the telephoto kit zoom in Fujifilm's XC consumer lens tier — smaller, lighter, and more affordable than the XF professional series, with plastic construction and no weather sealing. It provides a 76-350mm full-frame equivalent range on APS-C for outdoor events, wildlife, and travel telephoto coverage. OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) is built in for handheld telephoto use. The Mark II designation brought minor optical and AF improvements over the original.
The optical design uses 13 elements in 10 groups. Seven rounded aperture blades produce acceptable out-of-focus rendering. The 58mm filter thread is a common size for telephoto kit zooms. At 375g the lens is moderate for its zoom range. Minimum focus distance of 1.1m suits the telephoto use case. OIS is built in for handheld stability. Variable aperture runs from f/4.5 at 50mm to f/6.7 at 230mm — the f/6.7 maximum at 230mm limits low-light telephoto use. Build is lightweight plastic; no weather sealing.
The XC 50-230mm's practical role is as the telephoto half of a Fujifilm APS-C two-lens kit alongside the XC 15-45mm or XF 18-55mm — covering 76-350mm equivalent for outdoor events, wildlife, and travel subjects beyond the standard range. OIS extends handheld capability at the telephoto end. The XC consumer construction provides adequate quality for casual and enthusiast use; the XF 55-200mm provides better optical quality and more robust construction at higher cost.
On the used market the XC 50-230mm OIS II is affordable as a standard Fujifilm APS-C telephoto kit zoom. Condition checks: OIS engagement, zoom ring smoothness, and front element for cleaning marks. No weather sealing means rain and dust exposure should be avoided. The Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS provides better optical quality and linear-motor AF at a moderate premium. Compatible with all Fujifilm X-mount bodies.
