OM System's computational photography flagship, the fastest-shooting MFT camera ever made.
The OM System OM-1 launched in 2022 as the first camera under the new OM System brand after Olympus sold its imaging division. With a stacked 20.4MP Micro Four Thirds sensor, it delivers computational photography features including 120fps burst, handheld high-resolution mode, and AI-based subject detection.
Key features include 120fps electronic shutter burst with AF tracking, 50MP handheld high-res shot, subject-detect AF covering humans, animals, and vehicles, 5-axis IBIS with up to 8 stops, IP53 weather rating, and 4K 120fps video. The cross-type quad-pixel AF system is a generation ahead of previous Olympus bodies.
The OM-1 is praised for extraordinary burst speed, computational features no other system offers, and the most robust weather sealing in its class. It is criticised for the MFT sensor size limiting dynamic range and high-ISO performance compared to full-frame, and the premium price for a non-full-frame body.
Good value used compared to new prices. Check shutter count, IBIS operation, and the stacked sensor for any hot pixels. The OM-1 Mark II followed in 2024 with minor improvements. The OM-1 original remains an extremely capable body for wildlife, sports, and outdoor photography.
