OM System's compact weather-sealed MFT body with IBIS and computational photography features.
The OM System OM-5 launched in 2022 as a compact weather-sealed MFT body positioned below the flagship OM-1. Using a 20.4MP sensor with 5-axis IBIS, IP53 weather rating, and computational photography features, it targets outdoor and travel photographers who want OM-1-class weather sealing in a smaller body.
Key features include the 20.4MP sensor, 5-axis IBIS with up to 6.5 stops, 50MP handheld high-res shot, IP53 weather rating, 121-point hybrid AF, and 4K 30fps video. The body is compact and lightweight, smaller than the OM-1.
The OM-5 inherits the OM System brand from the Olympus OM-D E-M5 III. It is praised for weather sealing, IBIS, and computational features in a compact body. It is criticised for contrast-detect-only AF and a price that approaches the stacked-sensor OM-1.
Good value used. Check IBIS operation, weather seal integrity, and AF performance. The OM-1 offers significantly better AF with its stacked sensor. The OM-5 is for those who prioritise compact size and weather sealing over AF speed.
