OM System's updated mid-range MFT body with improved AF and computational features.
The OM System OM-5 Mark II was released in 2024 as the updated version of the compact weather-sealed OM-5, carrying the TruePic IX processor from the flagship OM-1 II into the compact sealed body. The core sensor, AF system, and burst rates are unchanged from the OM-5 original — the practical upgrades are the improved AI subject recognition from TruePic IX and minor refinements to the body design. IP53 dust and splash resistance with freeze protection to -10°C is retained. At 418g it is fractionally heavier than the OM-5's 366g.
The 20MP MFT Live MOS sensor and 121-point all-cross-type PDAF system are carried over from the OM-5. Burst shooting runs at 10fps with C-AF and 30fps with electronic shutter at fixed focus — identical to the OM-5. 4K video records at up to 30fps. The TruePic IX processor provides improved AI subject recognition for humans, animals, and vehicles compared to the OM-5's TruePic VIII. IP53 dust and splash resistance with freeze protection. Battery life approximately 310 shots using the BLS-50, body weight approximately 418g with battery and card, single SD UHS-II slot.
The TruePic IX processor's AI subject recognition is the Mark II's primary practical improvement: the subject tracking categories and accuracy improvements from the OM-1 generation are brought to the compact OM-5 body. For wildlife and bird photographers using the compact sealed kit, the improved tracking through foliage and in complex scenes is the meaningful upgrade. The unchanged sensor and AF hardware mean the burst and resolution capabilities are the same as the OM-5.
On the used market the OM-5 Mark II is available at a premium over the OM-5 original, reflecting the TruePic IX upgrade. Condition checks: IP53 sealing at port covers and joints, IBIS operation, BLS-50 battery health, and SD slot contacts. The BLS-50 is shared with the OM-5, E-M10 series, and E-PL bodies. Buyers who do not require the improved AI tracking can save significantly with the OM-5 original. Compatible with all Micro Four Thirds lenses from Olympus, OM System, and Panasonic.
