Panasonic's ultra-compact MFT vlogging camera with a large grip and directional microphone.
The Panasonic Lumix G100 was released in July 2020 as a compact, vlogging-oriented MFT camera with an integrated three-microphone audio system that differentiates it from standard compact mirrorless bodies. The triple-microphone array — comprising directional, stereo, and wide-capture modes — addresses the primary audio limitation of fixed built-in microphones. At approximately 338g the G100 is one of the lightest MFT bodies, pairing with compact MFT kit lenses for a genuinely portable vlogging setup.
The 20.3MP MFT CMOS sensor pairs with the Venus Engine processor. 4K video records at up to 30fps; 1080p at up to 60fps. The three-microphone system provides directional capture (focused on the subject in front of the camera), stereo capture (for natural ambient recording), and wide capture for immersive sound. There is no in-body image stabilisation — the lens relies on OIS from compatible lenses, or Dual IS with supported lenses on other Panasonic bodies. Battery life approximately 250 shots using the DMW-BLH7, body weight approximately 338g with battery and card, single SD/SDHC/SDXC slot.
The G100's directional microphone is its defining practical characteristic: for vlogging, interview, and social content the ability to select microphone capture mode in-body provides audio quality and flexibility uncommon at this price point. The absence of IBIS is the primary limitation for handheld video — video stabilisation depends entirely on lens OIS or post-production stabilisation. For tripod-mounted or gimbal-mounted vlogging use the G100's combination of compact size, MFT lens access, and audio capability is practical.
On the used market the G100 is available at low prices, reflecting its entry-level positioning. The Panasonic G9 and GH5 provide IBIS and significantly better video capability at higher prices for users who outgrow the G100's stabilisation limitations. Condition checks: three-microphone system function across all three modes, vari-angle screen hinge articulation, and battery health. The DMW-BLH7 is shared with other compact Panasonic MFT bodies. Compatible with all MFT lenses.
