Panasonic's updated high-resolution L-Mount body — successor to S1R with improved AF and processing.
The Panasonic Lumix DC-S1R II was released in February 2025 as the successor to the S1R, featuring a new 44.3MP BSI full-frame CMOS sensor (distinct from the original S1R's 47.3MP sensor), 8K/30fps video, 4K/120fps at 4:2:2 10-bit, and 8-stop IBIS — substantially improved over the original S1R's 6-stop IBIS. The body is significantly lighter at 795g with battery and card versus the original's ~1,020g.
44.3MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor. 8K/30fps; 4K/120fps 4:2:2 10-bit internal. 8-stop IBIS (body only; 7 stops at periphery with Dual I.S.). 795g with battery and SD card. Dual slots (CFexpress Type B + SD UHS-II). L-mount native communication. V-Log and HLG. Active cooling for extended recording.
The S1R II's 8-stop IBIS is the major upgrade over the original S1R: at 8 stops CIPA, the S1R II provides the strongest in-body stabilisation among full-frame L-mount mirrorless bodies. The body weight reduction (~225g lighter than S1R) makes the S1R II substantially more portable. The 44.3MP sensor versus the original's 47.3MP reflects a new BSI sensor generation, not a step down.
On the used market the Panasonic S1R II is a February 2025 product with very limited used availability. Condition checks: IBIS operation, active cooling function, dual card slot contacts. Compatible with all L-mount lenses from Panasonic, Leica SL, and Sigma FP series.
