Panasonic's high-resolution L-Mount mirrorless — 47.3MP full-frame with IBIS and High Res mode.
The Panasonic Lumix S1R launched in 2019 as the high-resolution variant of Panasonic's full-frame L-Mount system. Its 47.3MP sensor was the highest resolution in a mirrorless camera at launch, targeting landscape, studio, and commercial photographers who need maximum detail.
The 47.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor delivers outstanding resolution with good dynamic range. 225-point DFD contrast-detect AF — competent but trails phase-detect rivals. 9fps burst. High Resolution mode produces 187MP images from pixel-shift. 5-axis IBIS rated at 5.5 stops.
Magnesium alloy body at 1016g with full weather sealing. Dual card slots — XQD and SD. 5.76M-dot OLED EVF — class-leading at launch. 3.2-inch triaxial tilting touchscreen. 4K 60p video. USB-C PD charging. L-Mount Alliance compatibility.
Available used at mid-range to professional prices. The DFD contrast AF is the main weakness — the S1R II or S5 II with phase-detect would be better for moving subjects. For landscape and studio work where AF speed is less critical, the image quality is outstanding. Check for sensor dust.
