Sony's original G Master ultra-wide zoom — constant f/2.8 from 16-35mm with outstanding optics.
The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM launched in 2017 as Sony's flagship ultra-wide zoom for full-frame E-mount. As part of the G Master series, it delivers top-tier optics across the popular 16-35mm range with a constant f/2.8 aperture for landscape, architecture, and event photography.
Optically excellent — sharp across the frame with well-controlled distortion and minimal chromatic aberration. The constant f/2.8 aperture is fast enough for low-light and astrophotography use. XD Linear Motor AF is fast and precise. Good coma control for star photography.
Sony FE mount with 82mm filter thread. Weighs 680g. Weather-sealed dust and moisture resistant construction. Minimum focus distance 28cm. 11 rounded aperture blades. Focus hold button and AF/MF switch on barrel. Fluorine coating on front element.
Available used at professional prices. The GM II version from 2023 is lighter and optically improved but commands a significant premium. The Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 is much cheaper and lighter but narrower range. A reference ultra-wide for serious Sony full-frame shooters.
