Sony's compact APS-C mirrorless — 16.1MP NEX with tilting OLED screen and fast hybrid AF.
The Sony NEX-5N launched in 2011 as a compact APS-C mirrorless with a 16.1MP sensor and tilting OLED screen. It improved over the NEX-5 with hybrid AF (phase-detect on sensor) and touchscreen capability.
The 16.1MP APS-C sensor delivers good results. Hybrid AF with on-sensor phase-detect — innovative for 2011. 10fps burst. Full HD 1080p 60fps video. Touch AF via the OLED screen. Good low-light performance for its era.
Very compact at 269g with tilting 3-inch OLED touchscreen. No EVF built in — optional accessory. WiFi not built in. Sony E mount. Hot shoe added — first NEX-5 with this. Pop-up flash accessory.
Available used very cheaply. The A6000 dramatically improved AF and added EVF. The NEX-5N was a solid compact mirrorless of its era. For ultra-budget APS-C E-mount needs. Check for smooth operation.
