Sony's compact APS-C mirrorless — the NEX-5T with WiFi, NFC, and touchscreen.
The Sony NEX-5T is a compact APS-C mirrorless camera from Sony's NEX line, released in 2013 as the final iteration of the NEX-5 series before Sony transitioned the range to the Alpha A6xxx branding. It added NFC one-touch connectivity over the preceding NEX-5R.
The NEX-5T uses a 16.1-megapixel APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor, Sony E-mount for APS-C lenses, a touchscreen articulating LCD, 1080p video at up to 60fps, WiFi and NFC for instant smartphone pairing, and hybrid contrast and phase-detect autofocus on the sensor. Body-only size is exceptionally compact for an APS-C interchangeable-lens camera.
The NEX-5T was the last model to carry the NEX name before Sony unified its mirrorless range under the Alpha branding. NFC one-touch pairing with smartphones simplified image transfer significantly over the WiFi-only preceding model. All Sony E-mount lenses remain fully compatible with current A6xxx and full-frame FE bodies, making NEX glass still usable in modern Sony systems.
Test touchscreen autofocus targeting for accurate response on the articulating LCD. Verify WiFi and NFC pairing with a current smartphone app. Check articulating screen hinge for smooth operation. Test 1080p 60fps video recording. Note that NEX is a discontinued product line but all lenses remain compatible with current Sony E-mount cameras.
