The Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM was released in 2014 as Canon's most affordable ultra-wide zoom for APS-C EOS DSLRs. Note that the listing shows 10-20mm but this is most likely the 10-18mm IS STM. Covering a 16-29mm equivalent range, it brought ultra-wide photography within reach of budget-conscious Canon crop-sensor shooters.
Optical performance is good for the price. Sharpness is respectable across the frame, particularly in the centre. The IS stabilisation provides approximately 4 stops of correction, useful for handheld shooting. STM stepping motor autofocus is smooth and virtually silent — excellent for video. Distortion is present but well-managed by in-camera and software lens profiles.
Canon EF-S mount, APS-C only. Filter thread is 67mm. Weight is approximately 240 grams — remarkably light for an ultra-wide zoom. Build quality is basic plastic but functional. IS and STM features are premium for the price class. The slow variable aperture is the main compromise for achieving the low price and compact size.
Very affordable on the used market. Check for smooth IS operation and AF function. An excellent entry point into ultra-wide photography for Canon APS-C shooters. The Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM offers slightly better optics and a faster aperture, while the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 provides dramatically faster light gathering.
