Laowa's 2x macro for Nikon Z mount — same outstanding lens as ID 3536 in native Z mount.

The Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO is a specialist macro lens achieving 2:1 magnification from Venus Optics, here in native Nikon Z mount. The APO designation indicates apochromatic correction for virtually zero chromatic aberration at macro distances. It fills a unique niche that no Nikon-branded lens addresses — 2x magnification without accessories.

Optical performance at macro distances is outstanding. The APO design eliminates chromatic aberration even at extreme magnifications. Sharpness is excellent at close range, revealing details invisible at standard 1:1 macro. The 2:1 maximum magnification doubles life-size. At portrait distances, the lens is also capable with pleasant rendering, though macro is the primary purpose.

Nikon Z mount, manual focus only — no autofocus. Filter thread is 67mm. Weight is approximately 638 grams. Build quality is solid metal construction. The focus throw is very long for precise macro adjustment. No electronic communication in most versions — fully manual operation. No image stabilisation, though Nikon Z bodies with sensor-shift VR help.

Available on the used market at moderate prices. Check for smooth focus ring operation and clean optics. Manual focus is expected and appropriate for 2x macro work where AF is impractical.
