Minolta's advanced multimode SLR — one of the earliest with both aperture and shutter priority.
The Minolta XD5 was released approximately 1977 as an aperture-priority and shutter-priority automatic exposure 35mm film SLR — one of the first cameras with both AE modes. Minolta SR/MD mount. At approximately 490g with battery.
Minolta SR (MC/MD) mount. Aperture-priority AE and shutter-priority AE modes (Minolta called it 'Multi-mode'). Full manual override. At approximately 490g. 35mm film.
The XD5 was Minolta's multi-mode AE pioneer alongside the Canon A-1: both introduced multi-mode exposure automation in 1977-1978. The XD-series provided the AE modes in a compact body. Compatible with Minolta MD and MC lenses. The Minolta SR mount was later used for the AF Maxxum/Dynax series (with a different, non-compatible mount).
On the used market the Minolta XD5 is affordable as a vintage multi-mode film SLR. Condition checks: shutter speeds at all settings, both AE modes, battery compartment. Minolta SR/MD mount — MC/MD lenses compatible.
