A Nikon darkroom enlarging lens — not a camera lens, used for film printing in a darkroom.
The Nikon 80mm f/5.6 Enlarging Lens is a darkroom lens designed for projecting film negatives onto photographic paper in an enlarger — not a camera lens. Nikon produced high-quality enlarging lenses that were among the finest available for darkroom printing. The 80mm is designed for medium format negative enlargement.
Optical performance is optimised for flat-field projection at close range — the opposite of camera lens requirements. Sharpness across the projected field is excellent. The flat-field design ensures corner-to-corner sharpness when projecting onto paper. The f/5.6 aperture is used for focusing; printing is typically done at f/8-11 for optimal sharpness.
No camera mount — designed for enlarger mounting. The lens threads into an enlarger lens board. Weight is minimal. Build quality is excellent Nikon engineering. The lens has no shutter, no AF, and no camera compatibility. It is purely a darkroom projection optic. Not adaptable for camera use in any practical way.
Available at very low prices — darkroom equipment demand has declined dramatically. Check for clean optics and smooth aperture. Only of interest to darkroom printers using medium format negatives. Not a camera lens. The decline of film printing has made these lenses almost obsolete.
