Rodenstock's budget enlarging lens — the Rogonar 50mm f/2.8 at the entry tier.
The Rogonar is Rodenstock's entry-level enlarging lens range, positioned below the Rodagon and intended for amateur darkroom use. The 50mm f/2.8 uses a simpler four-element design compared to the Rodagon's six-element formula, with a single anti-reflection coating rather than full multi-coating.
50mm focal length, f/2.8 maximum aperture, four-element single-coated formula, M39 thread mount, designed for 35mm negatives.
The Rogonar delivers good performance for 35mm black-and-white printing at moderate enlargement sizes. For colour printing or large print sizes, the more limited coating and simpler formula produces slightly lower contrast and colour neutrality than the Rodagon. Good value for budget-conscious darkroom workers.
Inspect for haze and fungus; single-coated elements are more prone to flare and contrast loss. Check aperture blades and M39 thread.
