Sigma's fast 30mm prime for Canon EF-M mirrorless, part of the compact DN Contemporary line.
The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is a fast normal prime designed for APS-C mirrorless systems. This Canon EF-M mount version was released around 2020, joining existing Sony E and Micro Four Thirds variants. It gives a 48mm equivalent field of view on Canon's compact M-series bodies, ideal for everyday and portrait use.
Optically this is one of the sharpest APS-C primes in its class. Centre sharpness is excellent wide open at f/1.4, with corners catching up by f/2.8. Bokeh is smooth and pleasant thanks to nine rounded aperture blades. Autofocus uses a stepping motor that is quiet and reasonably quick, well suited to both stills and video.
Canon EF-M mount, APS-C only. Filter thread is 52mm. Weight is approximately 265 grams, keeping the package compact on small M-series bodies like the M50 or M6 II. Build quality is solid plastic with a metal mount. No weather sealing and no image stabilisation — rely on IBIS if your body has it, though most Canon M bodies do not.
Good availability on the used market. With Canon discontinuing the EF-M system, prices may soften further over time, making it a bargain. Check AF motor operation and front element for scratches. One of the best lens investments for Canon M shooters, delivering full-frame-rivalling image quality at a fraction of the cost.
