The Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC LD Aspherical IF is a constant f/2.8 standard zoom for Canon EF-S mount APS-C with Vibration Compensation, covering 27-80mm full-frame equivalent. Similar optical formula to the non-VC version but adds VC stabilisation. 67mm filter thread. At approximately 510g. 0.27m MFD.
67mm filter thread. At approximately 510g (heavier than non-VC version due to VC mechanism). Minimum focus distance of 0.27m. VC (Vibration Compensation) optical stabilisation. Screwdrive AF (body motor required). f/2.8 constant aperture. Di II APS-C image circle. Canon EF-S mount.
The VC version adds optical stabilisation to the XR Di II formula: for static subjects or when shooting in low light, VC enables slower shutter speeds without camera shake at the expense of approximately 80g additional weight versus the non-VC version. The stabilisation benefits are most significant at the 50mm telephoto end where hand-held camera shake is more pronounced.
On the used market the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC is affordable as an APS-C f/2.8 standard zoom with stabilisation. Condition checks: VC engagement, screwdrive AF response (requires body motor), 67mm front element for marks. Note: this is the VC (stabilised) version vs non-VC. Di II APS-C only. Compatible with Canon EOS EF-S bodies.
