Leica Summilux 35mm ASPH pre-FLE (mislabelled Zeiss), balanced sharpness and character between vintage and FLE.
The Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH (pre-FLE) is the first aspherical version of the Summilux 35mm — introduced 1994, before the FLE variant. Note: canonical name has erroneous 'Zeiss' prefix. Leica M mount.
f/1.4 maximum aperture. 35mm focal length (full-frame wide angle). ASPH element (pre-FLE, 1994-2010ish). Rangefinder-coupled. Leica M mount.
The pre-FLE ASPH Summilux 35mm was a significant optical upgrade over the 'Steel-Rim' version — the ASPH element sharply improved wide-open performance. The FLE version (id 2895, current) adds floating element for better close-focus. Both are highly regarded.
On the used market the Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH (pre-FLE) is a desirable modern Leica prime. Condition checks: front element, rangefinder coupling. Leica M mount — pre-FLE ASPH.
