Fujifilm's second-generation X100 with improved AF, X-Trans sensor, and acclaimed rendering.
The Fujifilm X100S launched in 2013 as the second generation of the X100 fixed-lens compact. Upgrading to the X-Trans CMOS II sensor and improving autofocus speed, it refined the original X100's formula while maintaining the iconic design. The S designation indicates the improved sensor.
Key features include the 16.3MP X-Trans CMOS II sensor, fixed 23mm f/2 lens providing a 35mm equivalent, hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder, leaf shutter enabling flash sync at all speeds, and the characteristic aluminium body with analogue controls. AF is significantly faster than the X100.
The X100S sits in the middle of the X100 lineage between the original and the X100T. Each generation improved sensor, AF, and features while maintaining the same core design philosophy. The X100V and X100VI are the current recommendations for new purchases.
Moderate value used as a vintage compact with genuine character. Check the lens for dust and fungus, verify the hybrid viewfinder switches between OVF and EVF cleanly, and test AF speed. The X100S has a devoted following for its rendering and shooting experience.
