Fujifilm's iconic fixed-lens compact with weather sealing and a tilting screen.
The Fujifilm X100V was announced in February 2020 as the fifth-generation X100 compact, with a redesigned Fujinon 23mm f/2 fixed lens — the first optical redesign in the X100 series. The new 8-element formula improved corner resolution on the 26.1MP X-Trans BSI CMOS 4 sensor. For the first time in the X100 series, the body incorporated weather sealing; however full front-element protection requires the optional AR-X100 adapter ring plus PRF-49 filter over the lens front. A two-way tilting touchscreen replaced the fixed rear LCD of the X100F. Strong and sustained demand for the X100V drove persistent production shortages after launch.
The 26.1MP APS-C X-Trans BSI CMOS 4 sensor pairs with the X-Processor 4. The built-in Fujinon 23mm f/2 lens uses 8 elements in 6 groups with two aspherical elements. The 425-point phase and contrast detect AF covers the full frame. 4K video records at up to 30fps. The hybrid optical-electronic viewfinder is built in. A 4-stop built-in ND filter enables aperture control in bright daylight without a screw-on filter. Battery life approximately 420 shots using the NP-W126S, body weight approximately 478g with battery and card, single SD/SDHC/SDXC slot.
The X100V's practical appeal is the combination of X-Trans CMOS 4 rendering and the 35mm-equivalent fixed perspective in a compact, pocketable form. For street photography, travel, and documentary work the fixed-lens design and fast f/2 maximum aperture provide subject separation in the standard wide field of view. The redesigned lens addresses the X100F's corner resolution limitation on the higher-resolution sensor. Weather sealing with the AR-X100 adapter extends the working envelope to rain; without the adapter the lens front remains unprotected. The built-in ND filter is a practical substitute for a screw-on ND in fast-changing outdoor conditions.
The X100V holds strong used value due to persistent high demand and Fujifilm's limited production runs. Condition checks: the tilting screen hinge (a high-use mechanism), front lens element for any cleaning marks or haze — the 23mm f/2 optical formula shows contrast degradation from even light coating abrasion — and AR-X100 adapter presence if full weather sealing is required. The X100VI (2024) adds in-body image stabilisation and an updated sensor at a higher price. Fixed-lens design: no interchangeable mount. Compatible with Fujifilm X100-series wide and tele conversion lens accessories.
